I started working at the La Crosse Radio Group in March of 1994. My Grandma,
Helen Hoskins was the one who pushed for Pat Smith to hire me, when I moved up here from Texas. She reminds me often that she got the job for me...and I AM eternally grateful to her for that! And even happier that she still remembers it!
About a year or so later, I was paired up with John and we've been doing mornings together ever since. I love this job, mostly because no day is ever the same. And because I can have all of the fun I want with racing--and even have a forum around here to share things with everyone.
Have I mentioned that I LOVE racing? I have a collection of video footage I've recorded from the last couple of years at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway & other tracks around the area on YouTube. You'll be able to see updated footage here on our racing page too, so be sure to check that often during the race season.
I'm having a torrid love affair with
Gary Allan...ok, that's not exactly true. But he IS my favorite artist...and I DO hope to have a torrid love affair with him someday.
An adorable fuzzy-faced dog named
Casey, calls me "Mommy"...well, she LOOKS at me like I'm her Mommy, especially when she wants her belly scratched. She's a little rascal with Cleopatra eyes.
I have two older brothers who live in the area as well--
Jeff & Tim. I'm proud to say we've always been very close, which seems like such a rare thing with siblings these days. They both have wonderful kids, who are endless sources of funny stories and great
artwork.
In the late 90's, I obtained my
pilot's license. It was always a dream to accomplish. I'd like to become instrument rated...but like most everyone else, time & money are always factors that impede progress on dreams. I'll get it done eventually. I'm just one lottery ticket away from it!
During the summer, you'll likely find me at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway or any other race tracks in the Midwest for special events. Did I mention that I LOVE racing?!
I was born in Salem, OR, and my folks moved to La Crosse when I was still a toddler. Mom was from here and my Dad was born and raised in Philadelphia. When I was a kid, I would sit in my room with a radio that had a built in cassette recorder. I would tape songs off the radio, stop the tape, and then do my own DJ thing. You know, intro the tunes, give weather reports, sports stuff, etc. I often think it would be fun to have those tapes! (And don't tell my mom this, but when I was 13 I got my own phone line in my room, and my friends and I used to call people up at random and do "radio contests". We would do trivia questions and tell them they'd won an album or something. Never got caught.) I was on the school station at La Crosse Central (Go Red Raiders!), which is where I graduated from. I did a lot of wedding dances, clubs, etc. but never got a "real" radio job until I was 28.
I started here at CC106.3 in 1994, when we were a new station. I can't believe it's been 15 years! We truly have the best listeners. Country fans just love their music and are so loyal. You guys are absolutely the best!
My wife Debbie and I live in the wilds near Stevenstown, with our son Jake, an incredible dog named Boomer, and three horses: Firewalker, Spirit and Di. Although country music is my thing now, like many of you I grew up on classic rock. It may surprise you to know that I'm a huge "Parrot Head". For those that don't know, that's a fan of the great Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy's THE MAN!
I can't tell you how much it meams to all of us at CC106.3 to have you as a listener. Thanks!
